2WD Vanagon Radflo Shock System
Like all Burley Motorsports products, our Radflo shock absorbers are deliberately overbuilt. They are manufactured using SSID steel tubing to ensure strength, longevity and superior wear resistance. In addition, the tube is enhanced with a clear cadmium finish to provide the highest level of corrosion resistance. Engineered to the correct size and length for a 2WD Vanagon, both front and rear shocks are tailor-made in a joint effort between Burley Motorsports and Radflo Suspension Technologies to bring out the very best from your Volkwagen 2WD Vanagon and yet remain within all specs to fit properly! It is vitally important to remain within the VW shock-length specs for this vehicle. Front shocks, for many reasons, will not work well with anything longer than stock. We have done a ton of testing on many different dampening systems. We worked with the premiere off-road experts to perfect all aspects of a suspension system, in which shocks play a huge part. It doesn’t get any better than this! (For more information on shock anatomy, see The Perfect Vanagon Shock System.)
Designed for the harshest off-road racing conditions with a Nitro Steel® rod and slippery bronze rod guide, these shocks provide unyielding performance in the roughest terrain and offer the smoothest ride on the streets. Multi-direction, triple lip sealing system prevents oil contamination while ensuring excellent gas and oil retention.
These shocks come with self-adjusting, velocity-sensitive valving, which automatically adjust to terrain for improved control, handling and comfort. Radflo’s exclusive Freeflo™ racing piston utilizes adaptive damping technology to automatically match shock performance to surface conditions. They feature multi-stage compression and rebound damping characteristics.
The front shock boasts a nitrogen-charged internal floating piston (IFP). These shocks use the internal floating piston to separate the nitrogen and oil, allowing the piston to be in pure oil which allows for better performance all around. The other shocks offered on the market for Vanagon owners are usually emulsion shocks which combine the oil and the nitrogen. With aggressive use, this created significant internal pressures as the oil cavitates and foams, which drastically reduces its dampening capabilities. This also leads to more significant wear and tear on other components on the vehicle. Our IFP shocks are far superior.
Even more hardcore, the rear shock adds a nitrogen-charged piggyback reservoir onto the monotube. This increases heat dissipation which means increased control as the dampening qualities don’t degrade. There is a dramatic enhancement in internal operating pressure caused by adding additional reservoir space onto a shock. Comfort, enhanced control and predictability, and a noticeable upgrade in dampening quality can all be expected when purchasing this shock.
Our proprietary shock absorbers are engineered to outlast and outperform the competition. All components are manufactured from the highest quality materials and machined to exacting tolerances right here in the United States. Every shock is manufactured entirely in-house at Radflo Suspension Technologies, under strict quality control. We went with the best.

This is a nice upgrade I bought these about a week ago and needed some help putting them on. While it did not seem too easy for me to pull out the old ones and replace them with these, they are basically the same size as the old shocks. I can't believe it, but my van feels like a Cadillac going down the road. The vibrations I used to feel on the 405 are gone, bumps are not something I need to deliberately steer clear of. I think I may upgrade to the springs in the fall. But for now, these are a very nice upgrade for my Westy!

BMS Delivers once again! I was hesitant to splurge on these but my wife gets irritable on long, bumpy roads so something had to be done. These did not disappoint. Burley has delivered an amazing product once again. I was flying down gravel roads with deep pits faster than many of the OHV's I was out on the trail with. Would highly recommend.

Can't get enough Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, these are the best shocks on the market. I put these on my 2WD and the difference between my 2WD and my 4WD is quite noticeable, where they used to be somewhat comparable. I really wish I could put my hands on a 4WD Radflo set now. I am waiting in the que for that awesome day! Hint hint -

Happy Days, Great Shocks! Heck YA! I waited a long time for these, and they did not disappoint me. They are a direct bolt-right-on kind of job that made a nervous man like me get the job done in record time. I had my van off the ground for one weekend. Waiting for spring to arrive is the hardest part of putting on this superb shock system. Just around town, the van drives like a dream. Smooth, great turns (no more swaying around), nice ride. I plan on taking my van out and will be raising the bar as soon as the snow melts a bit more! I am very happy. Thanks, Burley.

Awesome products This van drove down washboard gravel like you were sitting in a lazy-boy with the compression dialed down! Awesome products! Thank You

Highly Recommend! I put the Radflo shocks on my 2WD Westy with 1 1/2" Gowesty springs, ditched the Bilstein XHD's, and my van went from a POGO STICK to a RACE CAR! Highly Recommend!
