Built using tried and trusted components originally engineered by Volkswagen / Audi.
Another big plus is the parts are a set that is used on several 2001 and newer USA models of Volkswagen – Audi vehicles, NOT a mishmash of mixed of parts from various makes, models, years. Neither are the rotors proprietary nor any part obsolete, like other kits being sold by the competition.
Our kit makes replacement pads, rotors etc. super easy to get for a very long time. This is something you should always consider when making a brake kit choice.

High quality 288mm drilled, slotted and vented rotors for maximum cooling efficiency. Our rotors are approx the same weight as the original rotors so they won’t overload your wheel bearings / cause failure. Massively heavier rotors would bring the serious negative effects of extra unnecessary un-sprung weight to your van; we certainly don’t want that!
Brand new pair Calipers.
High-quality Ceramic brake pads for maximum stopping power and reduced dust.
A pair of hubs that are CNC machined from high-grade aircraft alloy steel, our hubs feature press-in style studs for added safety. Our hubs also maintain the stock track width.
New wheel bearings, seals and spindle safety nuts
Braided stainless DOT-approved brake hoses that run directly from the caliper to the hard line on the van body. This method eliminates the original problematic 3” curly-Q section of hard line at the caliper
Stainless dust / cooling air ventilation shields.

While most steel and alloy wheels will fit with the BMS front big brake kit, we have not had the occasion to try every wheel that is out there. However, here is a list of wheels that we know will fit for certain:
* 15” ASA ( clone MBZ wheels ) Model 8 wheels sold by Tire Rack ( aka look alike MBZ wheels sold by GW )
* 15” ASA model 9 wheels sold by Tire Rack ( aka ” Rally wheels sold by GW )
* 15” and 16” Carat wheels
* 16” clone MBZ wheels with correct et offset ( aka look a like MBZ wheels sold by Tire rack and GW )
* 16″ MBZ Forged CLK wheels (requires longer studs with later model 65286 CLK wheels)
* 16” steel Mobelwagon wheels
* 16” steel wheels with correct et offset, EXCEPT MEFRO
* 16” Method 502 Rally wheels
For those who need to purchase the conical, ball-shaped lug nuts for the commonly-used steel wheels: 14mm x 1.50 Thread Lug Nuts

**This kit requires 1986 or newer spindles.
***This kit does not come with lug nuts because discrepancies can be caused by the large varieties of wheels that are used by the van.
****The BMS brake kit DOES NOT change the track width of your van. But if your current wheel setup requires spacers, then those same spacers will work with this brake kit.
*****Studs are a press-in style stud; they do NOT come pre-installed.

Best Brakes | Burley Stands Behind His Product Long overdue, but here goes.... Back in 2019, ordered and installed Burley's big brake kit for my 1985 Vanagon. Before then, my van had its original 1.9 Wasserboxer and I was having to downshift to 2nd gear to help slow down such a large (yet beloved) gal. Burley's big brakes completely eliminated any need to downshift and gave me the confidence needed to be able to stop my van. Fast-forward to now (2025). I've got an EJ20 Subaru engine powering the van, and still highly confident in Burley's brakes. And.... Burley stands behind his product! I recently had the front wheel bearings replaced. Normally, would have done this myself but was short on time and had a local mechanic do it. The mechanic lost the spacers (2019 kit) and I was getting brake rotor contact with the inside of the calipers. I contacted Burley to get the proper width and bolt diameter so that I could source washers in lieu of spacers, as the previous Burley brake kit parts were no longer available... or so I thought. Lo and behold, Burley comes through and 1) was able to source replacement spacers for the older brake kit but also 2) provides me with replacement bolts! In short, you will be hard-pressed to find and do business with someone as helpful, knowledgeable, and straightforward as Burley. Bangin' Big Brakes! The Burley big brakes are awesome. I bought them to replace the big brake kit I got from Smallcar years ago. The Smallcar brakes were marginally better than stock, but yours are dramatically better.

Fantastic Brakes Just installed the Big Front Disk Brake Kit on our '86 2wd Westy, and what a massive difference. I have been keen to do this upgrade for a while as I felt that the braking in the van was seriously lacking. I'm so pleased to have finally tackled this project. Of all the upgrades we have done, this is the most noticeable and impactful for driving performance. The kit arrived quickly with everything needed for the upgrade. Big Front Brake Kit Installed this kit with a pair of 1987 spindles on my 1984 Westy. I was concerned initially about how the steering effort would increase using power steering type spindles on a non-power steering equipped van but I was pleasantly surprised to find not much effort increase even with 16” wheels. The BMS brake kit install was simple enough. I’ve been driving easy around town to bed in the pads for the last week. Today I did a long mountain decent without the overheating and brake fade experienced previously with the stock brakes. Very pleased.

Great Brakes! I read all the reviews I could find, watched YouTube and typed on the Samba ad nausium. But my new brake kit did not disappoint! These parts are beefy! I recommend this kit to any and all who want to improve their braking power. I go off road on some pretty intense camping expeditions, and I really wanted the best.

Getting the Front Done Now With just over 15K miles on the rear kit, I just pulled the plug on this front end kit. I was impressed at how easy it was to install the rear brakes, and I was glad I was able to do it myself in the comfort of my own garage. Changing out parts is a great hobby between a man and his son. Always heavy as hell, the mailman knows when I get something for my van in the mail. I have unboxed all the pieces to the front end brake kit and they look pristine, as usual. I will get back to update this as soon as I get the new brakes installed. But I already know it will be an improvement.
